HB 4796 requires law enforcement agencies of political subdivisions to adopt and enforce physical fitness standards for peace officers that align with those used by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Agencies must conduct annual evaluations of officers' physical fitness, and officers who fail to meet the standards must participate in a physical fitness program designed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement​.
