HB 5298 places restrictions on political contributions and lobbying activities by individuals appointed to public office by the governor. It prohibits appointees from making political contributions exceeding $2,500 to the governor or related committees in the year before or during their tenure. It also bans gubernatorial appointees from compensating lobbyists to influence legislation affecting their state agency. Violations can result in a Class A misdemeanor and triple financial penalties.
