HB 599 adds Section 38.045 to the Education Code, requiring school districts to provide information about public assistance programs such as Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) upon a student’s enrollment, transfer, or withdrawal. The Texas Education Agency, in coordination with the Health and Human Services Commission, will develop and distribute standardized forms for schools to use.
