HB 639 mandates licensed firearms dealers to include a firearm safety device, such as a cable or trigger lock, with every firearm sale or transfer. Dealers must also provide printed information on safe firearm storage and verbally inform purchasers about tax exemptions for firearm safety equipment. The Texas Department of Public Safety will develop a printable form detailing these requirements and best practices for firearm safety. Exceptions are made for firearms sold to peace officers.
