HB 711 amends Section 46.04(b) of the Texas Penal Code to prohibit the possession of firearms by individuals convicted of certain Class A misdemeanor family violence offenses against a family or household member. The prohibition applies for five years after the offender's release from confinement or community supervision. The law applies only to offenses committed on or after its effective date, September 1, 2025.
