HB 765 requires peace officers to obtain liability insurance covering damages arising from misconduct, including intentional or negligent acts committed during the scope of employment. The commissioner of insurance will set minimum coverage requirements, with provisions applying to officers employed on or after September 1, 2026. The Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
