HB 841 mandates that employers provide earned paid sick leave to employees in Texas, accruing at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum annual accrual of 64 hours for employers with 15 or more employees, and 48 hours for smaller employers. The sick leave can be used for personal illness, family care, or issues related to family violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Employers are prohibited from retaliating against employees for using sick leave, and the law takes effect January 1, 2027, with certain preparatory provisions effective September 1, 2025.
