HB 850 mandates that public and certain private schools make automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) accessible so that cardiac emergencies can be addressed within three minutes. It also requires schools to develop comprehensive cardiac emergency response plans, including team activation procedures, training, and annual drills. Schools must implement these changes by the 2027–2028 school year. A grant program will support schools in purchasing AEDs and implementing the plan. The law takes effect immediately upon approval or on September 1, 2025​.
