HB 883 requires licensed firearms dealers to report the sale or transfer of two or more firearms or four or more detachable firearm magazines to the same person within a five-day period to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Reports must also be shared with local sheriffs. Violations constitute a Class B misdemeanor, and the law prohibits the creation of a firearm owner registry from the data collected. The Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
