Digest
HB 889 increases the penalty for making a firearm accessible to a child. It raises the age defining a "child" from 17 to 18 years. It establishes a Class C misdemeanor for general violations, a Class A misdemeanor if the firearm is discharged and causes injury or death to the child or a household member, and a third-degree felony if the firearm's discharge causes injury or death to a non-household member. The changes apply only to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
