HB 892 mandates that individuals seeking to register to vote in Texas provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Acceptable documents include a U.S. passport, birth certificate, citizenship papers, or a consular report of birth abroad. The law includes a provision for the act to only take effect if a related constitutional amendment is approved by voters​
