HB 906 amends the Education Code to create a temporary teaching certificate for military service members and first responders. The certificate is available to individuals who were honorably discharged from the armed forces or who retired, resigned, or separated as first responders in good standing. Eligible applicants may substitute 48 months of active duty or first responder service for an associate degree requirement, or combine military or first responder experience with 60 semester credit hours at an accredited institution and a minimum GPA of 2.50. School districts must assign a mentor teacher to temporary certificate holders for at least two years. The law takes effect on September 1, 2025.
