HJR 142 seeks to abolish ad valorem property taxes in Texas, prohibiting political subdivisions from imposing these taxes after January 1, 2030. However, the resolution allows ad valorem taxes to continue for the purpose of repaying bonds or other financial obligations issued before that date until they are fully paid off.
