HJR 186 proposes an amendment to the Texas Constitution to explicitly prohibit slavery and involuntary servitude in all circumstances, including as a punishment for a crime. If approved by the legislature, the amendment will be placed on the ballot for voter approval in the November 4, 2025, election. The ballot proposition will ask voters whether to adopt the constitutional amendment prohibiting slavery and involuntary servitude.
