Digest
SB 1069 establishes a formal procedure for addressing allegations of religious discrimination against students in Texas public institutions of higher education. The bill requires the institution’s president to investigate claims that a professor or instructor discriminated against a student based on religion. If discrimination is confirmed, the institution must terminate the faculty member's employment. Additionally, the academic department in which the violation occurred will be placed under conservatorship of the university president for at least 90 days to monitor and prevent further discrimination. The president is authorized to conduct additional investigations, require policy changes, and take corrective actions.
