SB 1543 enhances safety training requirements for public school extracurricular activities, ensuring that all participants receive certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or the UIL. The training covers emergency action planning, effective communication with 9-1-1 operators, and recognition of potentially catastrophic injuries such as concussions, asthma attacks, heatstroke, and cardiac arrest. Schools must also conduct safety drills simulating various injuries to improve preparedness. The bill applies to the 2025-2026 school year.
