SB 1764 changes the state’s accountability intervention process for school districts with underperforming campuses. If 10% or more of a district’s campuses receive an unacceptable performance rating for five consecutive years, the Texas Education Commissioner may appoint a board of managers to oversee the district or take other actions under existing accountability statutes. The bill removes the previous mandate that required the closure of individual failing campuses and allows broader district-wide interventions.
