Digest
SB 2679 provides sheriffs and constables in counties with populations exceeding 1.2 million with the authority to enter into contracts to provide law enforcement services to local governments, property owners’ associations, and landowners. It limits the ability of commissioners courts to restrict the execution or terms of such contracts. Additionally, it prohibits the reallocation of funds appropriated to law enforcement agencies for other purposes and ensures parity in compensation across county-funded law enforcement agencies.
