SB 416 mandates that individuals provide proof of United States citizenship when applying for or renewing a personal automobile insurance policy in Texas. Acceptable forms of proof include an unexpired U.S. passport, a certified birth certificate, or citizenship papers. The requirement applies to policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
