SB 486 increases the criminal penalty for the offense of injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual when the offense occurs in a disaster or evacuated area. It adds such offenses to the list eligible for enhanced punishment under Section 12.50 of the Penal Code, which addresses crimes committed under emergency conditions.
