SB 490 mandates that hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers adopt and implement a surgical smoke evacuation policy. The policy must use surgical smoke evacuation systems to protect patients and health care providers during procedures likely to generate harmful smoke. Facilities must comply by January 1, 2026.
