SB 858 seeks to increase penalties for offenses related to the attachment or display of the wrong license plate or registration insignia on motor vehicles. Under the bill, individuals found operating vehicles with stolen or mismatched license plates knowingly will face higher fines, increasing from the current $200 to up to $500. The changes will apply to offenses committed on or after the bill’s effective date of September 1, 2025.
