SB 862 proposes to amend the Government Code by designating Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and the third day of Diwali as optional state holidays in Texas. The bill adds these holidays to the list of optional holidays that currently includes Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday. The designation allows state employees to observe these holidays in lieu of other state holidays, subject to employer approval.
