SB 967 amends the Texas Family Code to prohibit marriage for individuals under the age of 18, removing provisions that currently allow minors to marry with a court order removing their "disabilities of minority." Under HB 168, the county clerk is barred from issuing a marriage license to any applicant under 18, regardless of emancipation status. Additionally, marriages entered into by individuals under 18 will be considered void. This change applies to marriage applications and marriages entered into after the act's effective date, September 1, 2025.
