Interim Hearing | Online Gaming & Minor Safety
Event Details
The Texas House Committee on State Affairs will hold an interim hearing on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the John H. Reagan Building, Room 140.
The committee will examine inappropriate virtual experiences for minors on online gaming platforms, including violent or sexually explicit content and interactive features that enable communication between minors and adult strangers.
Lawmakers will study platform safety features such as third-party content moderation, parental controls, content labeling, chat filters, and governance policies. The committee will also examine age-verification and parental-consent requirements and consider their applicability to gaming platforms.
The hearing will additionally address the potential effects of federal law, including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, on state efforts to regulate gaming platforms. Lawmakers will consider recommendations for protecting minors while accounting for federal preemption, immunity protections, and potential constitutional limitations.
