Rep. Gary Gates is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in 2020 to represent District 28, which covers parts of Fort Bend County in the southwest Houston metropolitan area. A real estate and property management businessman, he attended Ohio State University and the University of Central Florida.

Born July 22, 1959, Rep. Gates lives in Richmond with his wife Melissa and their large family, including 11 adopted children. He has built his career in residential real estate and property management throughout the Houston metropolitan area, purchasing and renovating apartment properties and creating jobs across the region.
For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. Gates as Chair of the House Committee on Land & Resource Management, a senior chairmanship that oversees Texas land use, eminent domain, and property law. He also serves as a member of the House Committee on Energy Resources.
