Born and raised in Dallas as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, Rep. González earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in the same field at UT Arlington before attending law school in Michigan, where she graduated at the top of her class. She served as a White House intern in the Obama administration working on immigration issues and later worked as Nevada Voter Protection Director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. She returned to Dallas to co-found Gandara and Gonzalez, PLLC, a personal-injury law practice that routinely provides low-cost or pro bono work to the community.

A co-founder of the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus during the 86th Legislative Session, Rep. González currently serves as the caucus’s Chair. In 2024 she received the Profile in Courage Award from Equality Texas, the state’s largest pro-equality advocacy organization. Her prior recognitions include being named one of USA Today’s Women of the Year (2022), Texas Monthly’s “Bull of the Brazos” during the 87th Legislative Session, and the Matt Garcia Public Service Award from MALDEF.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed her to the House Committees on Insurance, Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence (with a seat on the Subcommittee on Family & Fiduciary Relationships), and Local & Consent Calendars.
