Born and raised in Clint, Texas, Rep. González graduated from Clint High School before attending UT Austin. Outside the Legislature, she has served as Executive Director of the Mexican-American School Board Association and previously worked as Assistant Dean for Student Multicultural Affairs at Southwestern University, as well as a curriculum researcher for UT Outreach Centers in San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley. Earlier in her career, she was Latino Outreach Coordinator for the Texas Democratic Party and worked for former House Dean Paul Moreno and Rep. Richard Raymond.

When she won her Democratic primary in May 2012, Rep. González became the first woman to represent House District 75 and one of the first openly LGBTQ members of the Texas Legislature. She served as national president of the Latina-based service sorority Kappa Delta Chi from 2013 to 2015 and was inducted into the El Paso Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015. She was also named one of Latina Magazine’s “Next Generation Latinas” for her leadership in education.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. González as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations — one of the most influential positions in the House — and Chair of the Subcommittee on Articles I, IV, & V.
