Biography

Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives representing District 116, which covers a portion of Bexar County including Balcones Heights, Leon Valley, and areas of San Antonio. First elected at age 29, he is currently serving his 12th legislative session and has risen to become the 10th most senior member of the Texas House and Dean of the Bexar County Delegation.

Rep. Martinez Fischer graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School, where he played for the Huskies football team and was later named to the school’s Hall of Fame. He became the first member of his family to receive a college degree, graduating from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and was selected as a National Urban Fischer, earning a Master’s of Public Administration from the Baruch College of Public Affairs at the City University of New York. He earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and maintains an active law practice in San Antonio.

Rep. Martinez Fischer previously chaired the House Democratic Caucus and served as Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus from 2009 to 2016. Texas Monthly named him one of the “10 Best” legislators in 2011, 2013, and 2015, and awarded him the “Bull of the Brazos” in 2015 for being the most effective advocate in the Legislature.

He and his wife Elizabeth, also a practicing attorney, live on San Antonio’s historic West Side with their two daughters.
