SB 2818 requires Texas peace officers to undergo training on interacting with individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The training must cover recognizing autism traits, effective communication strategies, de-escalation techniques, and identifying situations where individuals with autism may be exploited or in danger. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement is responsible for establishing this program, which will be a mandatory part of the police academy curriculum starting January 1, 2026.
