Biography

Rep. Hillary Hickland is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in November 2024 and sworn in on January 14, 2025 to represent District 55, which covers central Bell County and includes the cities of Temple, Belton, Harker Heights, Killeen (Part), and Nolanville. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baylor University in 2005 and a Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University in 2009.

Born October 18, 1982 in Jasper, Texas, Rep. Hickland is a ninth-generation Texan. After graduating from Baylor, she and her husband lived for a period in Mexico, where she became fluent in Spanish while teaching English.

Speaker Dustin Burrows has appointed Rep. Hickland to the Texas 1836 Project Advisory Committee, and she was recognized by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians with the 2025 Patient Advocacy Award.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Burrows appointed Rep. Hickland to the House Committees on Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans’ Affairs (including its Subcommittee on Defense & Veterans’ Affairs), Redistricting, and Ways & Means, as well as the Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting. She and her husband Jesse — a family physician — live in Belton with their four children.
