Since 2017, Rep. Jay Dean has served as State Representative for House District 7 in East Texas. Before serving in the Texas House, he served as Mayor of Longview for a decade and on the Longview City Council for five years prior to that.

Rep. Dean has been a small business owner and executive in the oil and gas field services industry. Having previously run his own business, he now serves as General Manager for Thomas Oilfield Services. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University, where he studied business administration and management.

Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, Rep. Dean and his wife Pokie moved to Longview in 1981, where they raised their three daughters and helped found St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed him as Chairman of the House Committee on Insurance, and he also serves on the House Committee on Energy Resources.
