Biography
Rep. Reynaldo T. “Ray” Lopez is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in a March 2019 special election to represent District 125, which encompasses much of San Antonio’s culturally diverse West and Northwest sides and includes the City of Leon Valley.

District 125 is home to over 170,000 residents, many of whom are military or civil service employees, along with three independent school districts and two institutions of higher education: St. Mary’s and Our Lady of the Lake Universities. A graduate of Harlandale High School, Rep. Lopez joined the United States Armed Forces following high school and served 14 years in the Army Reserve. In 1990, he was elected to the North Side Independent School District Board of Trustees, where he served as Board President. In 2004, he was elected to the San Antonio City Council, representing Council District 6 for four consecutive terms until reaching term limits.
Rep. Lopez is a small business owner and retired AT&T executive with more than 35 years of experience in the information and telecommunications industry. He has received recognition including being named to AT&T’s Leaders Council and Circle of Excellence and was inducted into the Harlandale Independent School District Hall of Fame. He and his wife Evelyn have four grown children.
For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. Lopez as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans’ Affairs — where he also serves as Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Defense & Veterans’ Affairs — and as a member of the House Committee on Land & Resource Management.
