Biography

Rep. Stan Kitzman is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in 2023 to represent District 85, which includes Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Waller, and Wharton counties and a portion of Fort Bend County. Born October 30, 1965 in Houston, he is a sixth-generation Texan and a descendant of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred,” the original grantees of land from Mexico in the 1820s.

Rep. Kitzman earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Systems Management from Texas A&M University in 1991 and served for 21 years in the Texas Army National Guard, retiring in 2011 after three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, and Texas Faithful Service Medal. Before his election to the Texas House he served as a Waller County Commissioner, a public school teacher, and a drainage district general manager, and he currently owns and operates a small business in Pattison.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. Kitzman to the House Committees on Agriculture & Livestock and Appropriations, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Article III overseeing education funding, as well as to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
