Biography

Rep. Jolanda Jones is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, first elected in a May 2022 special election to represent District 147, which covers a portion of Harris County including central and southeast Houston. A graduate of Alief Elsik High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Houston in 1989 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 1995.

Born November 6, 1965 in Houston and raised in the Third Ward, Rep. Jones competed in the heptathlon at the University of Houston as a three-time NCAA champion in 1986, 1987, and 1989. She is the owner of the Law Office of Jolanda Jones, where she has practiced for more than two decades. She served on the Houston City Council from January 2008 to January 2012 and on the Houston Independent School District Board of Trustees.

For the 89th Legislative Session, Speaker Dustin Burrows appointed Rep. Jones to the House Committees on Criminal Jurisprudence — where she serves as Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice — Public Health, and Redistricting.
